General Secretariat organises consultative meeting to discuss launch of Arab Observatory for Women’s Economic Development

​In implementation of the resolution adopted by the Council of the League of Arab States at the Summit Level during its 33rd session, held in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and in accordance with Resolution 18 issued by the Arab Women's Committee at its 43rd Ministerial Session concerning the initiative of the United Arab Emirates to establish the Arab Observatory for Women's Economic Development, the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector – Women's Department) convened a high-level meeting at the Level of Permanent Representatives on 30 April to discuss the official launch plan for the Observatory.

Arab Media Excellence Award Committee convenes for ninth edition

​In implementation of the resolution adopted during the 20th Ordinary Session of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, held in the United Arab Emirates on 9 December 2024, under the agenda item titled "Promoting Professional Media Quality and Excellence and Strengthening the Capacities of Arab Media Professionals," the Media and Communications Sector of the League of Arab States is organising the meeting of the Jury Committee for the Arab Media Excellence Award. The meeting is scheduled to take place on 5–6 May at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

General Secretariat organises 16th Meeting of Technical Advisory Committee of Council of Arab Health Ministers

​The General Secretariat is convening the 16th Meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Council of Arab Health Ministers on 28–29 April at the headquarters of the League of Arab States. The meeting was held in preparation for the 62nd Ordinary Session of the Council of Arab Health Ministers and its Executive Office, scheduled to take place in Geneva on 18–19 May in conjunction with the 78th Session of the World Health Assembly.

11th China-Arab Businessmen Conference and 9th Investment Seminar inaugurated

​In implementation of the Executive Programme of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum, the 11th China-Arab Businessmen Conference and the 9th Investment Seminar are convened on 28-29 April in Hainan Province, People's Republic of China. The events are jointly organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Economic Affairs Sector – Department of Economic Relations), the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and the Hainan Provincial Government, in collaboration with the Union of Arab Chambers.

​The League of Arab States commemorates the Arab Day for Awareness of the Tragedies and Pain of Victims of Terrorist Acts on 22 April each year, marking the anniversary of the signing of the Arab Convention on Combating Terrorism by the Councils of Arab Ministers of Interior and Justice during their joint meeting in 1998. Through the adoption of this and other regional instruments, the League has sought to address the scourge of terrorism, recognising the grave threat it poses to the present and future of Arab nations


General Secretariat organises "Free Palestine" exhibition on Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian territories

The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States is organising an exhibition highlighting the ongoing Israeli violations in the occupied Palestinian territories, on the sidelines of the 163rd Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level. The exhibition is part of the activities of the Joint Coordination Mechanism between the League of Arab States, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the African Union to support the Palestinian cause and to harmonise Arab, Islamic, and African positions on the international stage.

​The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, expressed profound sorrow at the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, the Supreme Pontiff of the Vatican and leader of the Catholic Church. In his statement, he paid tribute to the late Pope as a singular moral voice for humanity and conscience—principles that many in today’s world have forsaken.

General Secretariat participates in Fifth China-Arab States Forum on Reform and Development

​The General Secretariat (Economic Affairs Sector) took part in the fifth session of the China-Arab States Forum on Reform and Development, held in Shanghai, People's Republic of China on 18 April 2025. Convened under the theme "Implementing the Global Development Initiative and Advancing China-Arab Cooperation Towards New Horizons," the forum was hosted by the China-Arab States Centre for Reform and Development Studies, under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China.
